Three Olympic Games burn brightly on the horizon. Here is everything you need to know about the next editions of both the Winter and Summer Olympics.
⛷️ Milan-Cortina 2026 — Winter Olympics
Dates: February 6 – February 22, 2026
Location: Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy
Theme: “Purity of Courage — Dreams Are Forever”
The XXV Olympic Winter Games mark the first time Italy has hosted the Winter Olympics since Turin 2006, and the first dual-city Winter Games in history. The competition will span three geographic clusters — metropolitan Milan, the historic alpine resort of Cortina d’Ampezzo (which hosted the 1956 Winter Olympics), and the Valtellina mountain region.
The Games will feature approximately 116 events across 16 sports, with an expected 2,900 athletes from 90 nations. The Opening Ceremony will be held at San Siro — one of the world’s most famous football stadiums — and the Closing Ceremony at Verona’s 2,000-year-old Arena di Verona.
Key disciplines include alpine skiing (Men’s at Bormio, Women’s at Cortina), figure skating and short track at Milan’s Palazzo del Ghiaccio, and freestyle skiing and snowboard at the high-altitude resort of Livigno.
🏖️ Los Angeles 2028 — Summer Olympics
Dates: July 14 – July 30, 2028
Location: Los Angeles, California, USA
Slogan: “The Games of the People”
The XXXIV Summer Olympics return to Los Angeles 44 years after the 1984 Games, making LA only the third city to host the Summer Olympics three times (alongside London and Athens). With SoFi Stadium as the centrepiece and iconic venues like the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and Crypto.com Arena supporting the programme, LA 2028 promises the most star-studded Olympics in history.
New sports include flag football, T20 cricket, lacrosse (sixes format), squash, and baseball/softball. An estimated 10,700 athletes from more than 200 nations will compete across 329 events in 32 sports.
The LA 2028 Organising Committee has adopted a sustainability-first approach, using existing venues wherever possible and targeting carbon neutrality across the Games.
🦘 Brisbane 2032 — Summer Olympics
Dates: 2032 (exact dates TBC)
Location: Brisbane, Queensland, Australia
Queensland’s subtropical climate, world-class sports infrastructure, and vibrant multicultural identity won the IOC’s nomination in July 2021. Brisbane 2032 will be Australia’s third Summer Olympics, following Melbourne 1956 and Sydney 2000.
The Games will be centred on Brisbane but spread events across South East Queensland, potentially including the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast. Planning is in early stages, with an emphasis on long-term community legacy and minimal new construction.
Brisbane 2032 will be the first Olympics fully planned under the IOC’s New Norm framework, prioritising cost control, sustainability, and local benefit above spectacle.
