Commonwealth Games boxing has launched legends — from Lennox Lewis to Nicola Adams. At Glasgow 2026, the ring takes over the SEC Centre from 24 July to 1 August 2026, with men’s and women’s divisions battling through knockout draws to finals night.
The Venue: SEC Centre
The SEC Centre is Glasgow 2026’s busiest hub, staging boxing alongside judo, bowls and 3×3 basketball. Expect partisan crowds every session — Scottish boxing fans need no warming up.
How Commonwealth Games Boxing Works
The Format
It’s a straight knockout tournament in each weight division: lose once and you’re out. Both losing semi-finalists take home bronze, meaning every division awards four medals — and every quarter-final is effectively a medal fight.
Rounds and Scoring
Bouts are three rounds of three minutes. Five judges score each round 10-9 (or wider) for the boxer who lands the better quality blows, dominates the exchanges and shows superior technique. Stoppages happen, but most bouts go to the cards — so work-rate in every round matters.
Weight Divisions
Boxers compete in weight classes from the lightest flyweights to super heavyweight, for both men and women. Making weight is a discipline of its own: miss the scales and the tournament is over before it begins.
What to Watch For
England, India, Australia and Northern Ireland have been recent Commonwealth medal machines, while Scotland’s home boxers will feed off the SEC crowd. Finals weekend, with title after title decided in one ring, is one of the hottest tickets of the Games.
